CUBISM

Collaboration Between Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque
"the cube, the sphere, the cylinder and the cone"

WHAT IS CUBISM?

Cubism is one of the greatest and widely appreciated art movements of the twentieth century,
developed
by the Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso and the french artist, Georges Braque. In 1909, Picasso and Braque's
collaboration led to the
creation of Cubism. The sense of a grid in their paintings became apparent along with the relations
between forms.² Both of them were interested in African and
Oceanic sculptures along with the Post-Impressionist painter, Paul Cézanne.
The
combination of characteristics from the tribal arts with Cézanne's advice and style, helped pave the way for the development of Cubism.

There are three phases in the development of Cubism:

                                    Facet Cubism
 Synthetic Cubism                                                  Analytic Cubism
